Scenic Highway 30A
Coastal dune lakes, a nineteen-mile paved trail, Point Washington forest, four state parks, and distinct town centers fill the miles between beach sessions.
Western Lake borders Grayton Beach and WaterColor, Eastern Lake meets Seagrove, and Lake Powell sits beside Camp Helen. Allow a half-day for a paddle and shoreline walk, use an established concession or launch, and check wind, storms, and outfall conditions before putting in.
Choose one park near the lodging: Topsail Hill for west-end preserve trails, Grayton for Western Lake, Deer Lake for a dune boardwalk east of Seagrove, or Camp Helen for Lake Powell and historic buildings. Give the visit two to four hours and read the current official notice first.
The paved Timpoochee Trail runs beside much of Scenic 30A. Ride Gulf Place to Blue Mountain, Grayton to Seaside, or Seagrove toward Rosemary, then stop for lunch in the destination community before returning. Slow at every driveway and road crossing.
The Eastern Lake trailhead on County Road 395 serves 3.5-, 6-, and 11-mile double-track loops through Point Washington State Forest. Choose the short loop for a first visit; sand, standing water, heat, and hunting seasons can change the outing, so carry the official map and water.
Spend an evening in one center: Seaside for its amphitheater and Ruskin Place, Gulf Place for the green and west-end restaurants, or Alys and Rosemary for architecture and shaded lanes. Eat there rather than adding another corridor drive.
Choctawhatchee Bay, Destin Harbor, and Panama City waters add fishing, dolphin cruises, and boat days. Treat these as full-day regional outings: confirm the marina, departure time, parking, and drive before booking because the selected charter may be well beyond Scenic 30A.
